Colour Bass Explained: Best Tracks and Labels 2026

Colour bass is the melodic, accessible lane Rushdown popularised. Chime runs the label; this is a map, not a fake 2026 top ten.

Colour bass is melodic, accessible bass music popularised by the label Rushdown. Chime, who runs Rushdown, is the reference name attached to that lane in our reporting. A title that promises “best tracks” still gets a dated map and a sentence on what we cannot crown. We do not invent a colour-bass top 10 for 2026.

What colour bass is (and is not)

On the magazine subgenre page updated 14 July 2026, colour bass sits next to melodic riddim: riddim with a few notes so the loop opens up. Colour bass pushes further into melodic, accessible territory. It is not brostep (Skrillex-era roughly 2011-2014, the commercial face then, with aggressive midrange sound design). It is not chillstep (calmer YouTube style, largely off the main club scene). It is not trench (OG riddim codes). Full glossary: /en/what-is-dubstep/.

Riddim remains what we call the popular 140 dialect in 2026. Colour bass borrows the half-time body and dresses it with clearer melodic writing. If you came in through festival tearout, colour bass will feel polite. If you came in through deep UK, it will feel brighter. Both reactions are normal.

Rushdown, Chime, and the night we already filed

Rushdown is the label name to know for this lane. Chime runs it. An older Dubstep Mag report covers Chime at a Drop In Bass night at Nexus: /soirees-dubstep/report-drop-in-bass-une-entree-fracassante-au-nexus/. That report is the live proof we have on file for Chime in a room. It is not a 2026 residency calendar.

We are not inventing 2026 Rushdown release dates we did not check. Follow the label’s own channels for the next EP. The useful act is to treat Rushdown as the colour-bass door, then verify each new upload yourself.

Melodic doors beside colour bass (documented only)

If you want melodic bass that is not a fake “top 10 melodic artists of 2026,” the brief list we can name is short:

Seven Lions played a Lost Lands 2026 sunset set, first time back at that festival since the 2017 inaugural. ILLENIUM was on the Lost Lands bill and also appears on Subtronics’ “Got Away” (with Royal & the Serpent) from the Fibonacci album. SLANDER is named in the Lost Lands 2026 review. Those are festival and catalogue facts, not a colour-bass chart.

Fibonacci itself is a Subtronics album on Cyclops Recordings , released 5 December 2025 (Apple Music date), eighteen tracks across Pt 1 Oblivion and Pt 2 Infinity. It is a December 2025 album. Say that when people still play it in 2026. Beatport: Fibonacci release. Spotify album: open.spotify.com/album/763xbIwmR5A5EzoVreGlUG. Subtronics’ month page: /artistes-dubstep/artiste-du-mois-janvier-2026-subtronics/.

Lost Lands 2026 took place on 18-20 September at Legend Valley, Thornville, Ohio. Lineup and review context: EDM.com lineup and EDM.com review.

How to find colour bass without a fake ranking

Open SoundCloud searches for dubstep mix and riddim mix, then listen for melodic leads over half-time drums rather than trench-style OG loops. Liquid riddim is the quieter neighbour: still underground, still a SoundCloud dig more than a Spotify editorial cover. Colour bass is brighter and more label-shaped because Rushdown gave it a home.

On Spotify, search dubstep, open Spotify’s own editorial Dubstep and Riddim playlists, and check the update date. Lists move. We do not name playlist IDs. Do not treat Beatport’s Dubstep top 100 as a colour-bass list; the genre tag mixes riddim, melodic bass, and festival dubstep in one bucket. Useful as a sales snapshot. Useless as a dictionary.

YouTube promo uploads from UKF Dubstep and DubstepGutter will surface melodic festival edits mixed with heavier material. Search UKF Dubstep and DubstepGutter. UKF editorial: ukf.com. A 2022 Ticket Fairy piece called those two the main dubstep promo channels then. Do not recycle 2022 subscriber math as a 2026 ranking.

If you need the wider 2026 map after this page, open the riddim / trench / tearout split at /news/riddim-vs-trench-vs-tearout-2026/ and the magazine glossary at /en/what-is-dubstep/. French twin of this explainer: /news/colour-bass-sous-genre/.
