Best Melodic Dubstep Artists Besides Illenium

Seven Lions, SLANDER, colour bass via Rushdown, and melodic riddim are the melodic-bass doors this magazine can name besides ILLENIUM.

ILLENIUM is still the name most search bars spit out for melodic bass. This is not a fake top 10 of melodic artists for 2026. It is the short door list this magazine can verify: Festival melodic names we actually logged at Lost Lands, plus colour bass and melodic riddim as the magazine defines them.

Festival melodic doors we logged in 2026

Seven Lions played a Lost Lands 2026 sunset set, his first return since the 2017 inaugural. Wooli, Seven Lions and ATLiens drew sunset crowds in the EDM.com review. ILLENIUM himself was on that bill. He also appears on Subtronics’ “Got Away” (with Royal & the Serpent) on the Fibonacci album (December 2025, Cyclops Recordings). SLANDER is named in the same Lost Lands coverage. Festival review and lineup: EDM.com review, lineup story. Sets map: /news/lost-lands-2026-dubstep-sets/.

That is the melodic-bass corner of one Ohio weekend, not a genre census. Subtronics’ Fibonacci still sits in 2026 listening even though the album is a December 2025 release. Spotify album: open.spotify.com/album/763xbIwmR5A5EzoVreGlUG. Beatport: Fibonacci release. Track guide: /news/subtronics-2026-tracks-after-fibonacci/.

ILLENIUM stays on the list because the query asks for “besides” him, not “instead of” him. Use him as a reference point, then open Seven Lions and SLANDER before you assume every melodic drop lives on the same playlist.

Colour bass and melodic riddim

Colour bass is melodic and accessible, popularised by the label Rushdown. Chime, who runs Rushdown, played a Drop In Bass night at Nexus in an older Dubstep Mag report: /soirees-dubstep/report-drop-in-bass-une-entree-fracassante-au-nexus/. Colour bass explainer: /news/colour-bass-explained-2026/. French twin of that page: /news/colour-bass-sous-genre/.

Melodic riddim is riddim with a few notes so it opens up. Riddim itself is a prominent style in our editorial coverage we name for 2026: 140 BPM, simple structure, half-time weight. Liquid riddim is the calm side of that 140 lane, still underground, found more on SoundCloud than on Spotify editorial covers (riddim mix search). Liquid riddim note: /news/liquid-riddim-140-bpm/. Genre map: /en/what-is-dubstep/, /news/dubstep-vs-riddim-vs-brostep-vs-bass-music/.

Brostep (Skrillex, roughly 2011–2014) was aggressive and midrange-focused then. It is not the same thing as colour bass or melodic riddim in 2026. Chillstep is calmer YouTube fare, largely off the main club scene. Useful if you want bass without a room-clearing drop. Not a 2026 club genre: /news/chillstep-in-2026/.

How to listen without a fake ranking

Open Spotify’s own Dubstep and Riddim editorial playlists and check the update date. Do not trust a pasted playlist ID from a blog. Search: open.spotify.com/search/dubstep. For mixes that stay melodic without cutting every 30 seconds, filter YouTube to about an hour and prefer known promo channels over random “best of” uploads (UKF Dubstep search, ukf.com). Mix method: /news/best-melodic-dubstep-mix-2026/.

Beatport’s Dubstep top 100 will mix melodic bass into the same bucket as riddim and festival dubstep. Treat it as a shop chart: /news/beatport-dubstep-top-100-what-it-gets-wrong/, top 100.

Lost Lands also named Liquid Stranger, Ganja White Night, Seven Lions, SLANDER, ILLENIUM, and Excision’s Detox (downtempo) Sunday set in the same coverage week. Detox is not colour bass, but it is another door if you want festival bass without tearout chaos. Excision month: /artistes-dubstep/artiste-du-mois-septembre-2026-excision/. Liquid Stranger month is filed for November. Ganja White Night for August. Wakaan 2026 (Liquid Stranger) runs 1–3 October 2026 (pre-party: 30 September) at Mulberry Mountain, Arkansas, with Of The Trees, Getter, Doctor P, Whethan and Flux Pavilion on our September notes. Festival map: /news/best-dubstep-festivals-2026/.

Flux Pavilion’s February artist-of-the-month page sits closer to the 2011 melodic-festival door (“I Can’t Stop”) than to riddim. Skrillex’s June page covers the brostep commercial face. Neither replaces Rushdown’s colour bass lane. Month index: /artistes/. Beginner entry tracks if you are still building ears: /news/best-dubstep-songs-for-beginners/.

NCS is an electronic music label covering multiple genres, including dubstep. Its policy allows independent creators to use its catalogue on YouTube and Twitch, including monetised content, with the required attribution. Brands, games and films have separate licensing arrangements. That permission does not clear third-party songs included in a mix.

Genre vocabulary in one page: /news/dubstep-vs-riddim-vs-brostep-vs-bass-music/. UK deep vs US festival if the melodic door still feels American-only: /news/uk-dubstep-vs-us-festival-dubstep/.
