SomaFM Dub Step Beyond: Is It Still Worth Streaming?

What SomaFM Dub Step Beyond actually plays in 2026, who it fits, and when you should leave the stream for YouTube or Rinse.

SomaFM Dub Step Beyond is still worth streaming if you want commercial-free bass that digs past festival playlists. It is not worth it if you need current riddim on loop for eight hours. The station’s own recently played list and about text already answer most of the question.

What the station is

The channel sits on SomaFM, a San Francisco listener-supported network. The Dub Step Beyond page line is: “Dubstep, Dub and Deep Bass. May damage speakers at high volume.” The station’s own about text says it focuses on bass music and tries to play more than Skrillex-style music, naming Bassnectar, Tipper, JaFU, Phutureprimitive, Opiuo and Flux Pavilion.

Web player: https://somafm.com/dubstep/ . Playlist streams: https://somafm.com/dubstep130.pls and https://somafm.com/dubstep.pls . The direct-link page was last updated Monday 21 September 2026. That update date matters more than a blog post claiming the channel “died.” Check the player yourself.

What recently played looked like

SomaFM Dub Step Beyond describes its programme as dubstep, dub and varied bass music. Current tracks and listener totals change continuously; use the official song history to inspect the current selection.

That sample matches the about text. You get deep and eclectic bass, older UK names next to mid-bass and IDM-adjacent producers, not a Lost Lands main-stage mirror. Skream and Benga here are entry-point names this magazine already treats as classics elsewhere, not a 2026 chart. Genre map for how this magazine splits riddim, brostep and the rest: /en/what-is-dubstep/ (French twin at /qu-est-ce-que-le-dubstep/). Riddim is a recurring style in our editorial coverage. Brostep is the Skrillex-era commercial face, roughly 2011–2014, with aggressive midrange sound design. SomaFM is closer to the deep end than to festival tearout.

When to stay, when to leave

Stay on SomaFM when you are working, gaming, or listening at home and you want zero ads. The stream keeps moving without a DJ talking over every drop. Closed headphones or a system that still has weight under 40 Hz will show why that “may damage speakers” line exists. Phones hide the sub. A soundsystem is still the listening default because dubstep was built for one.

Leave the stream when you want:

  • a named London show slot (open Rinse FM at https://www.rinse.fm/ instead)
  • festival b2bs and Couch Lands VODs (search YouTube; we do not invent set links)
  • liquid riddim and deep UK exclusives that live on SoundCloud searches like https://soundcloud.com/search?q=riddim%20mix and https://soundcloud.com/search?q=dubstep%20mix

Rinse remains multi-genre in 2026. It started as a pirate and has been legal since 2011. Historical dubstep home for Skream, Youngsta, Hatcha, Kode9 and later shows. It is not a 24/7 dubstep jukebox either. Bassweight’s blog covered an Alix Perez Rinse show from 25 February 2026 in a post dated 12 March 2026: https://www.bassweight.net/1985-music-with-alix-perez-2-25-rinse-fm/ . Bassweight is a blog, not a competing radio: https://www.bassweight.net/ .

Uturn Radio’s dubstep page lists Laurent Schark Fridays 21:00 GMT-5 and Nicko Vibe Saturdays 15:00 GMT-5, plus DJ Bahanos electro house mixtapes. Third-party recent-track scrapes lean melodic EDM. Sample the hour at https://www.uturnradio.com/dubstep before you treat it as a SomaFM substitute. Free radio shortlist with all three: /news/best-free-dubstep-radio-stations-24-7/.

How it sits next to YouTube and Beatport

YouTube promo channels UKF Dubstep and DubstepGutter push premieres and mixes. A 2022 Ticket Fairy piece called those two the main dubstep promo channels then. Do not treat 2022 math as a 2026 ranking. Search https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=UKF+Dubstep and https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=DubstepGutter . Editorial home: https://ukf.com/ . For gym hours, prefer a continuous mix over a premiere channel that talks between songs. Method: /news/best-dubstep-mixes-on-youtube-2026/.

Beatport’s Dubstep top 100 measures shop sales, not SomaFM’s eclectic spin. Chart: https://www.beatport.com/genre/dubstep/18/top-100 . It misses SoundCloud-only dubs and radio shows. Spotify lists move; search https://open.spotify.com/search/dubstep and check update dates rather than pinning IDs.

Lost Lands 2026 (18–20 September, Legend Valley) is the live peak this magazine documented this month. Couch Lands was the livestream. Search set titles for VODs. The official Lost Lands site now features Excision’s two-hour 2026 solo set. For other replays, check festival and artist uploads: a performed set does not guarantee an available recording.
