Liquid Riddim: The Quiet Side of 140 BPM

Liquid riddim is calm 140 with half-time weight. In 2026 it still lives on SoundCloud, not on the Spotify editorial cover.

Liquid riddim is the quiet end of riddim. Same 140 BPM grid, same half-time weight, much less tension. On the magazine’s subgenre map, updated 14 July 2026, it is still underground. You find it by digging SoundCloud, not by opening Spotify’s editorial cover.

The French version of this page is /news/liquid-riddim-le-140/.

Where it sits

Riddim is the club dialect this magazine names for 2026: 140 BPM, a simple structure, half-time weight. Liquid riddim stays in that family and turns the volume and the tension down. Trench is the OG riddim word pushed by Infekt. Tearout is the chaotic festival end, a different job. Melodic riddim adds a few notes so the loop opens up. Colour bass is the melodic lane popularised by Rushdown and Chime. Brostep is the accessible Skrillex face from about 2011 to 2014. Chillstep is the calm YouTube style, mostly off the main club floor.

The map is on /en/what-is-dubstep/. The riddim, trench and tearout split is in /news/riddim-vs-trench-vs-tearout-2026/. Trench has its own note at /news/what-is-trench-dubstep/. Colour bass is at /news/colour-bass-explained-2026/.

Producers usually write dubstep at 140. The snare lands on beat 3, so the body hears a 70 BPM pulse. Half-time is that feel. Some deep UK tunes sit lower or looser. Do not treat every file as exactly 140.00. Infekt’s 2017 description of riddim energy as flow, rather than tear-out in your face, is in the long history piece: /news/history-of-dubstep/. Safe deep-UK doors, as entry points and not as a 2026 chart: Skream “Midnight Request Line”, Mala “Anti War Dub”, Digital Mystikz “Haunted”, Benga and Coki “Night”.

Where to dig

Start on SoundCloud: riddim mix and dubstep mix. Listen to the middle of the upload, not only the first eight bars. Bassweight is a blog, not a stream (bassweight.net). A 12 March 2026 post there covers an Alix Perez Rinse show from 25 February 2026. That is a show write-up, not a liquid playlist.

Spotify is the second stop. Open dubstep search, then Spotify’s own Dubstep and Riddim editorial playlists, and check the update date. Those lists move, and they often miss liquid. Beatport’s Dubstep top 100 measures Beatport sales. The Dubstep bucket mixes riddim, melodic bass and festival dubstep, and it misses SoundCloud-only dubs.

On YouTube, look for a continuous mix around 45 to 75 minutes, uploaded in 2026, without someone talking between tracks. Start from UKF Dubstep and DubstepGutter. The editorial site is ukf.com. A 2022 Ticket Fairy piece already treated those two as the main promo channels. That comparison is four years old. Use UKF when you want the write-up with the premiere, DubstepGutter when you want upload volume, both if you are hunting.

What radio and charts will not do

SomaFM Dub Step Beyond describes its programme as dubstep, dub and varied bass music. Current tracks and listener totals change continuously; use the official song history to inspect the current selection.

Rinse FM (rinse.fm) is London, legal since 2011 after pirate years, and still multi-genre: garage, grime, dubstep, house, jungle. It was a historical home for Skream, Youngsta, Hatcha, Kode9 and later shows. It is not a 24/7 liquid jukebox. Uturn Radio’s dubstep page (uturnradio.com/dubstep) lists Laurent Schark on Fridays at 21:00 GMT-5 and Nicko Vibe on Saturdays at 15:00 GMT-5. Directories disagree between Quebec and Ottawa. That page is not a Montreal club calendar. Third-party recent-track scrapes lean melodic EDM, so press play and judge the hour.

For a heavier continuous hour, use the gym filter: /news/best-1-hour-dubstep-mix-for-the-gym-2026/. For riddim without the 30-second cut compilations: /news/best-riddim-mix-2026/.

Lost Lands 2026, 18–20 September at Legend Valley, is the live peak documented through 30 September. Couch Lands was the livestream. Search the set and prefer the festival’s own channel once the replay is up. Shazam fails on unreleased dubs. Film a few seconds, note the time in the set, then check comments and any tracklist the next day. The ID method is at /news/how-to-find-unreleased-dubstep-ids/.

The artist-of-the-month series (Subtronics through Mala) is the magazine’s 2026 file, not a liquid playlist. Fibonacci is a December 2025 album that is still in rotation. Never Say Die Vol. 7 (5 June) and Legacy (3 July) are the label spine. None of that replaces a calm SoundCloud dig.

The official Lost Lands site now features Excision’s two-hour 2026 solo set. For other replays, check festival and artist uploads: a performed set does not guarantee an available recording.

Uturn’s times are reproduced as displayed in GMT−5. They are not an automatic conversion to Montreal local time, whose UTC offset changes with daylight saving time.
